The Director of Support Services has the responsibility to serve as staff officer to the Superintendent; providing advice as to the wise use of the District’s resources, recommending good business and management practices with consideration of legal requirements, and assisting with the preparation of agenda items for School Board meetings and to ensure the smooth pursuance and successful fulfillment of the functions of transportation, food services, custodial, maintenance, grounds and other support staff areas. The Director will supervise-manage Architects, Engineers and Construction Consultants. This cabinet level position is a collaboratively Administrative Team member.

Bachelor’s Degree with specialization in School Administration or related field or 5 years of experience in Support Services setting including at least three years in a director level.

Knowledge of managing multiple operating budgets ranging from $1.6 to $4.5 million.

Knowledge of Federal and Arizona Law, School Facilities Division and State Board of Education rules pertaining to school codes.

Knowledge of managing Emergency Operations Plans.

Knowledge of managing School Facilities Division grants.

Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Knowledge of AutoCAD and Bluebeam is preferred.

Knowledge of administrative computer applications as related to departmental job functions.

Ability to create meaningful charts, graphs and spreadsheets to present to the Governing Board, District employees and the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Coordinate on-going activities of the Transportation Department to ensure optimum employee commitment and exemplary customer services.
  2. Ensure compliance with all Arizona State Statutes, State Board of Education Regulations, and District School Board Policies relative to Transportation.
  3. Develop, implement, and direct a district-wide custodial service program.
  4. Oversee the Emergency Operations Plans.
  5. Oversee the Food Services program for the District.
  6. Ensure Food Services compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
  7. Direct and supervise the maintenance, custodial and grounds operations functions of the School District.
  8. Manage all construction projects. (Grant, Capital, and Bond)
  9. Assist the Superintendent in the formulation, development, and implementation of procedures to comply with rules and policies adopted by the School Board that are related to human resources and professional standards.
  10.               Coordinate and manage the accounting function, ensuring that the district derives maximum bene?t through the judicious management of all funds (operating, debt service, capital or bond improvement, contracted programs, and internal).

Coordinate the auditing of the school internal accounts and proper record keeping of the property inventory. 

  1. Develop and manage a cooperative exchange of information with local, state, and federal educational and governmental units to meet reporting requirements and improve the compatibility of the school district’s information system with corresponding systems of other units.
  2. Evaluate existing and new technology for compatibility, cost e?ectiveness and functionality in order to provide maximum bene?t to the district’s automated administrative system.
  3. Prepare word documents, spreadsheet and presentations as directed.
  4. Attend professional development workshops.
  5. Adhere to District policies and procedures, as well as all applicable State and Federal laws.

 

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Governing Board.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervise all District assigned personnel. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with District procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The employee is frequently required to move about the campuses and to drive to the schools and departments in the district. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock, vibration and extreme heat. The employees must frequently work in small, cramped areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Salary Schedule: Administrative Initial Salary Placement
