Position Goal

The Night Lead Custodian (12 month) is responsible for maintaining the general safety, appearance and upkeep for assigned school or department by performing the following duties.

  • High School Diploma or GED required and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to analyze minor problems and affect repairs. Ability to perform general light maintenance.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor as required.
  • Proficiency in the use of custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to instruct and assist employees in the correct procedures regarding general campus safety.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with director, principal and other site staff.
  • Ability to organize and plan ahead; must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or vendors.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1.  Cleans and maintains building and grounds areas. Makes sure sidewalks are swept and entrances are clear of leaves and debris. Cleans classrooms, cafeteria, halls, restrooms, locker rooms, sidewalks and other areas.
  2. Sets standards of cleanliness and responsibility. Ensures that safe work procedures are observed at all times.
  3. Sweeps, dusts, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors; washes windows, walls, woodwork, and equipment in classrooms, all purpose rooms and office spaces. Empties trash and garbage containers.
  4. Operates cleaning equipment and machinery. Properly uses and stores chemicals used for maintenance and cleaning.
  5. Inspects reports of safety hazards, malfunctions, vandalism and damages to buildings or equipment.
  6. Performs minor repair and light maintenance work. Replaces air conditioner filters. Maintains building by performing minor and routine painting, plumbing (i.e. drinking fountains, faucets, flush valves, etc.); replacing light bulbs, tubes and ballasts; and performing other related maintenance activities.
  7. Notifies Principal concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment or contacts Director of Support Services for extensive repairs.
  8. Maintains accurate records and inventory of custodial supplies and equipment. Assists with ordering supplies and equipment
  9. Ensures proper procedures in handling and disposing of hazardous materials; including appropriate documentation.
  10. Arrives early to open school; put out crossing zone signs; set up for breakfast and check classrooms for maintenance problems.
  11. Sets up for lunch and special events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee will be engaged in daily strenuous physical activity. The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds. The employee frequently is required to move about the District or campus. The employee is occasionally required to sit.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme cold.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Salary Schedule: Support Staff Initial Salary Placement Range 108

Benefits: Per District Policy

Evaluation: Annual

Contract: 12 Month, 261 Days per Year

Hours: Full-time position, 8 hours per day

Reports to: Director of Support Services

FLSA Status: Non-exempt
