Position Goal: The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership according to the District’s vision and provides supervision and support for Human Resources and matters relating to the schools. The Assistant Superintendent will work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to administer methods, programs and procedures to maximize district goals and objectives. This position reports directly to the Superintendent.

  • Arizona Superintendent Certificate or written evidence of eligibility
  • 3 years administrative experience
  • 3 years of successful teaching experience
  • Excellent interrelationship skills, organizational skills, integrity, a strong work ethic and knowledge of all aspects of K-12 education
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred
  • Human Resources administrative experience preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide leadership in the development of short and long-range plans for Human Resources, which align with and support a positive culture and diverse workforce within the district.
  2. Develop and monitor student enrollment projections and forecast staffing needs of the total educational programs, K-12.
  3. Assist in review of Board policies, administrative rules, and status reviews for the Superintendent’s review and action.
  4. Attend and participate in Governing Board meetings as directed by the Superintendent. Prepare updates to the Governing Board on the development of Human Resources and related issues of the responsible areas.
  5. Administer the day-to-day operations of the assigned District programs.
  6. Identify the needs of the District to enhance the overall educational operations, planning and student achievement of the District.
  7. Assist the Superintendent in implementing the philosophy and goals of the school program, interpreting the educational philosophy and policies to the Board, staff, students and the community.
  8. Assist the Superintendent with the selection and alignment of administrative staff as dictated by the needs of the District.
  9. Administer the Human Resources functions of the school district to attract, hire and retain the most highly qualified personnel.
  10. Lead strategic planning and change initiatives related to personnel functions for the District.
  11. Maintain, interpret and comply with current State and Federal laws, regulations and guidelines as they relate to employee relations.
  12. Attend professional development conferences, seminars, and workshops in job-related areas.  
  13. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the position and other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands and arms, stand, bend or stoop. The employee is frequently required to move about the campuses and to drive to the schools and departments in the District. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary Schedule: Administrative Initial Salary Placement

Benefits: Per District Policy

Evaluation: Annual

Contract: 12 Months

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Superintendent

Hours: Full-Time, 8 Hours per Day
