Position Goal

The Principalship involves administrative and supervisory responsibility for a elementary school , grades K-6. The primary role is that of instructional leader within the school, to provide each student with the most appropriate educational opportunities in a safe, secure environment, so that all students can achieve their full potential as contributing members of the community. The Principal will plan, organize, develop and implement instructional goals and objectives; will develop the procedures for evaluating program activity and operations effectiveness; will develop, organize and direct activities pertaining to staff development/training program, and handle other related functions as directed by the Superintendent.

  • State of Arizona Principal’s certificate
  • Current Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Master’s Degree and Administrative coursework from an accredited college or university
  • Quality teaching and administrative experience as an educator and school principal
  • Knowledge of K-6 curriculum, Arizona State Standards, and Arizona Education Laws
  • Evidence of outstanding communication and human relations skills
  • Experience and success in leading a collaborative professional learning community
  • Skilled teacher mentor; knowledgeable in the areas of differentiated instruction, current research on effective instructional practice and assessment. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement the essential principles of a successful school

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provide a safe and positive environment in which learning is the highest priority.
  2. Direct and coordinate educational, administrative and counseling activities for the school.
  3. Design and implement a communication plan to articulate academy vision, purpose, and programs.
  4. Promote positive action toward the realization of school and district goals through efficient procedures, extra curricular programs and establishment of staff, student and community committees. 
  5. Interpret, implement and enforce Governing Board Policy and administrative regulations relating to the academy.
  6. Supervises, in compliance with District policies, all staff for which he/she has responsibility.
  7. Effectively communicates to staff to keep them informed of policy changes, new programs, areas for improvement and recognition of exceptional performance.
  8. Ensure the utilization of District-adopted curriculum materials to instruct students.
  9. Monitor supplemental instructional materials utilized in classrooms for appropriateness and educational value.
  10. Communicate with school staff concerning District and academy-wide curriculum issues, gathering information or disseminating information as needed.
  11. Facilitates the development, articulation, implementation, and management of a shared vision with the Districts vision, mission and core values.
  12. Keep abreast of current research and consider the implementation of innovative techniques which will benefit students.
  13. Maintain responsibility for the development of the instructional program and monitoring its effectiveness.
  14. Supervise the school's special education program ensuring compliance with District, State and Federal regulations. This supervision includes resources and the RISE program.
  15. Utilize pertinent sources of information, e.g., surveys, test scores, to determine the effectiveness of the instructional program and to lead staff in making changes when needed.
  16. Maintain required formal evaluation procedures, ensuring quality instruction through thorough improvement plans for appropriate staff.
  17. Coordinate and direct a full range of co- and extra-curricular activities to supplement the academic instructional program.
  18. Develop budget recommendations for operations and maintenance and capital outlay as the Superintendent may direct.
  19. Monitor and approve expenditures of funds allocated to the academy through the budget and other sources.
  20. Supervise the daily utilization of academy facilities for both academic and non-academic purposes.
  21. Maintain close contact and rapport with all interested parties, including students, staff, parents and the community concerning the operation of the academy and the instructional program.
  22. Develop and maintain a program of public relations which furthers awareness and understanding of school and district goals and insures community input, involvement and support.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise all employees at the school. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s politics and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the campus. Employee must be able to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is frequently required to move about the campuses and to drive to the schools and departments in the District. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary Schedule: Administrative Salary Placement
